The
School of St. Mark is a learning
community in continuous pursuit of excellence -
intellectual, spiritual and moral. The values St. Mark
stands for are highlighted in the words Justice,
Truth, Liberality and Peace. These words, and
the concepts behind the words, provide the path to
growth and personal fulfillment in union with God,
communion with others and harmony with creation.
JUSTICE - Justice is
the cardinal virtue that directs us not to take what is
not ours, and to give to every man what is his. Without
justice a civilized social order is difficult, if not
impossible, to conceive. The virtue of justice
distinguishes the full grown and responsible member of
socially inadequate.
TRUTH - Truth
consists in the perception by our mind of the totality
of God's creation. The end result of this coming
together of mind and creation is knowledge. This we must
always and diligently look forward to not only when we
are students but all the days of our life, for human
life is enriched through its acquisition.
LIBERALITY -
Liberality is the quality in man that distinguishes the
generous from the stingy, the liberal from the narrow
minded, the compassionate from the heartless. Liberality
implies a certain amount of detachment from material
things and commitment to the welfare of others. It is
the distinguishing mark of those who not only appear but
are truly great.
PEACE - When
everything and everyone is in its proper place and
order, only then there is peace. Peace has always been
desired by man as the highest goal and remains forever
his ultimate aspiration. But peace does not just happen.
It depends on the presence or absence of justice, for
peace is nothing else but the end result of justice.
Where justice reigns there is peace, where injustice
rears its ugly head.
