The student's performance according to the standard that the school has set is measured by means of grades. The grades represent the degree to which the student has understood the concepts, has acquired the skills and has developed right attitudes and values that embody the ideal SSM student. The implementing guidelines on the performance - based grading system as defined by the Department of Education is followed with emphasis being placed onthe formative function of assessment.

1. Academic Subjects

The grades for the academic subjects are computed is accordance with the prescribed norms and standard established by the school in consonance with the guidelines set by the Department of Education.

a. There are (4) grading periods or quarters within the year.

b. The scholastic standard or minimum requirement for every subject is 75% which means that for a one hundred (100) item test, a student must get at least seventy five (75) in order to pass or for a ten (10) item test, the passing score is 8.

c. The lowest grade reported in the card is 65% and the highest is 100%.

d. The numerical system of grading is used and grades are expressed in up to two decimal places.

e. The Quarterly Grade of a student is a given subject is based on the Class Standing and Quarterly or Periodical Examinations. Two - thirds (2/3) is derived form the Overall Class Standing mark which includes quizzes, unit / long tests, recitation, homework, project and other forms of evaluation. The remaining one - third (1/3) comes from the Periodical or Quarterly Examinations.

EXAMPLE: English
Quarterly Grade = 2/3 Class Standing + 1/3 Quarterly Exam
Overall Class Standing = 87 x 2/3 = 58
Periodical Examination = 85 x 1/3 = 28.33
First Quarter Grade for English     = 86.33

f. The Averaging Method is used in the computation of the Final Grade. This means that the Final Grade in a given subject is obtained by adding the grades of first to the fourth grading period divided by four.

EXAMPLE: English

First Grading:
80.3
Second Grading:
82.56
Third Grading:
80.21
Fourth Grading:
81.32
Total:
324.39 / 4
Final Grade:
81.10

g. The guidlines in the computation of the Composite Grades and Average:

Grade School

  • Get the composite grade for English: The grades for Reading and Language will be added and divided b two(2).
  • Get the composite grade for HELE-Computer: The grades for HELE and Computer Education will be added and divided by two(2).
  • Get the composite rating of MAPES: Grade in Music multiplied by .2 or 20% garde in Art multiplied by .3 or 30% grade in Physical Education multiplied by .3 or 30% and the grade in Scouting multiplied by .2 or 20%. Then get the sum of all the products.
  • To get the grade for Makabayan, Grade 1-3: compute for the average of Sibika at Kultura with MAPES. For Grades 4-6: compute for the average of HEKASI, HELE-Computer and MAPES.
  • To get the average, the grades for the five (5) learning areas: English, Mathematics, Science, Filipino and Makabayan will be added and divided by five (5).

High School:

  • Get the composite grade for THE - Computer: The grades for THE and Computer Education will be added and divided by two (2).
  • Get the composite rating of MAPES: Garde in each component subject will be added and divided by five (5).
  • For Makabayan: Grade in component subjects multiplied by the unit credit, get the sum of all the products divided by the sum of the unit credits which is get the sum of all the products divided by the sum of the unit credits which is 4.5.

EXAMPLE:

Component Subject
Unit Credit
Product
Social Studies = 80
1.2
96
THE with Computer = 81.4
1.2
97.68
MAPEHS = 85.4
1.2
128.10
Values Education = 83.2
.6
49.92
Total
4.5
371.70 / 4.5
Grade for Makabayan
82.60

* To compute for the average, multiply the grade of each core subject (English, Mathematics, Electives, Science, Science and Makabayan) with its correspoding unit credit. Get the total of all products then divide by the total unit credits of 11.3.

EXAMPLE:

Core Subjects
Grades
Unit Credits
Products
English
86.33 x
96
129.50
Mathematics
82.16 x
97.68
123.24
Elective
84.34
128.10
126.51
Science
87.2 x
49.92
156.96
Filipino
90 x
371.70 / 4.5
108
Makabayan
85.47
82.60
384.62
Total

12
1028.83 / 12
Average
=
85.74

h. Letter grades are used for Computer Education (Grade 1-3) and Penmanship in the Grade School. The equivalent rating of each numerical mark and letter mark is as follows:

95 - 100
A
- Excellent
90 -94
A-
- Very Good
85 - 89
B
- Good
80 - 84
B-
- Satisfactory
75 - 79
C
- Acceptable
74 below
D
- Unsatisfactory

2. Deportment

A student is rated in six areas that encompass the standars of Personality and Character Development:

a. Observance of school rules and regulations
b. Grooming
c. Courteousness and Politeness
d. Dependability
e. Initiative and Resourcefulness

Using the Rubric for Personality and Character Development , all the subject teachers rate the students in each area on a scale of 6 as the highest and 1 as the lowest. The computed average rating for each area is reflected in the report card with a letter mark.
